Digital Voice
Training the Next Generation
Sikhlens Digital Voice is one of our oldest programs and has been running for more than 15 years. The goal of this program is to introduce community children to filmmaking, media, and digital storytelling at an early age.
Workshops are held in gurdwaras and community centers where students learn basic skills such as filming, editing, and storytelling. These workshops usually run for one or two days and are hands-on and interactive.
More than 10,000 children around the world have participated in Digital Voice training.
Learning Through Mentorship
Digital Voice workshops are led by Sikhlens scholars and film students who received scholarships to attend film schools. As part of giving back, they help train younger students.
The program uses simple learning tools and online resources to make filmmaking easy to understand.
Students create short films during the workshops, and nearly 200 short films have been produced through this program.
Building Media Awareness
One of the goals of Digital Voice is to help families understand the importance of media, film, and broadcast journalism. Sikhs have very little representation in mainstream media, and this program encourages youth to explore these fields.
We also work with partner organizations such as Siri Hemkunt Foundation through the Panthik Digital Voice program.
Many students who started in Digital Voice have later joined film schools, showing the long-term success of this program.
