Destination S (Project S)
Film School Partnerships
Destination S and Project S are connected programs that work with film schools and young filmmakers around the world. The goal is to create films about Sikh history, culture, and the global Sikh diaspora.
Through Project S, Sikhlens partners with universities and provides scholarships and grants to film students. These students create documentary, narrative, and animation films as part of their coursework or thesis projects.
Many of these filmmakers are not Sikh, but by working on these films they learn about Sikh stories and communities in a meaningful way.
Global Stories
Through Destination S, filmmakers travel to different parts of the world to film real stories of Sikhs living in many countries. Sikh communities exist across continents, and each location has its own history and experiences.
Students and young filmmakers have traveled to Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, India, Canada, and the United States to create these films.
These projects help build a global film library that documents the Sikh journey around the world.
Future Impact
It takes many years for filmmakers to become established in the industry. Sikhlens believes that supporting young filmmakers today will help Sikh stories in the future.
Students who work with Sikhlens may later become directors, producers, or decision-makers in major studios and media companies.
This program is a long-term investment to ensure Sikh culture and history are properly represented in global media.
